approach

Non-Diet • Body inclusive • Affirming

Within a judgment free space and through a weight inclusive lens, we will work with you to help you meet your individual nutrition needs, while addressing the more nuanced beliefs and behaviors that serve as barriers to your recovery. Together we’ll explore your relationship with food and body, identify and challenge any existing rules and rituals around your eating experience, and break down destructive messages and misconceptions you’ve learned about food and body. With an increased understanding of these relationships and through the use of effective, evidence-based skills, we will support you to make the behavioral changes needed to create a more mindful and intuitive eating experience, ditch diet culture, and make peace with food and body.

Services

Nutrition therapy

Initial Session (1 hour): The first session is an opportunity to get to know one another and establish a foundation of trust as we begin your nutrition journey together. We aim to provide an open and safe space in which you feel supported to discuss your history, eating patterns, beliefs and experiences that have shaped your relationship with food and body, and your goals for your recovery journey.

Follow-up Sessions (45 mins): In these sessions, we will continue to build on the foundation of rapport and trust. We will help you to understand, connect with and honor your physiological sensations, including hunger and fullness. We will explore the maladaptive beliefs and behaviors keeping you from a life that aligns with your values, and build skills that enable you to make sustainable behavioral changes to meet your goals.

Meal Support

Therapeutic meal support sessions can be an important part of the treatment process and may be in conjunction with our existing nutrition sessions or as a solo service, depending on your individual needs. A meal support session is an exposure practice that allows us to address "in the moment” thoughts, feelings and discomforts that arise while eating. We would either meet at a restaurant, or virtually, and eat a meal together. As part of processing through the experience, we will work on practicing awareness to reconnect with your internal sensations and further foster a trusting relationship with your body. We will also incorporate skills to help you learn to tolerate uncomfortable emotions so that you begin to feel less distress and more empowered and confident with food and eating.
